Dear Editor,
I see nothing wrong with 16 being the legal marriage age for girls.
We need to come up with laws that reflect the realities on the ground.
By putting the legal marriage age at 18, we may end up oppressing girls who may want to settle in marriage at 16.
After all, at 16, the girls can only marry with the consent of their parents. In my opinion, that is enough safeguard for girl-child’s education needs.
If parents feel their child is still young to marry, they will reject the move.

In Malawi official age for starting school is 6 years + 8 year primary education + 4 years secondary school= 18 years, as simple as abc. 'Think globally, act locally,' that should be the rule
