GOOD OLD DAYS: Former Escom CEO Peterson Zembani explaining to State President Dr Bingu wa Mutharika about his company's power generation activities. In what many analysts are describing as a cleaning up exercise for all organisations that provide essential services to the Malawi public, the board management for the country’s sole energy supplier, the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) has sacked the company’s Chief Executive Peterson Zembani.
Zembani, an electrical engineer by profession, was sacked on Wednesday in the commercial city, Blantyre after lengthy deliberations by the board.
Escom board chairperson Davies Katsonga Phiri told Malawi Digest on Wednesday evening that Zembani had been relieved of his duties as CEO following a number of challenges facing the organisation.
“You know Escom is undergoing difficult times in delivering our services to the public and we, as board, thinks that the company need a person with fresh ideas that can turn around the organisation,” he said.
Asked to explain why they decided to sack Zembani this time around when the company was strategising on the delivery of its services to the public, Katsonga said that it was along that same path of strategising that they thought of firing Zembani, saying the organisation needed change of management.
“It was such a very difficult decision to fire such a dedicated employee who has served Escom so well but we had to do it in order to make some improvements in the organisation,” he said.
According to Katsonga, Zembani was expected to finish his contract next year and that as a result, he is going to be paid off for the remaining period of his agreement with his employers.
When Malawi Digest contacted Peterson Zembani this Thursday morning, he said he was not in a position to comment on his sacking, as he was still digesting what had happened to him.
Before being appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2007, Zembani served Escom in different capacities at the energy supplier.
The sacking of the Escom boss comes barely a few days after another Chief Executive Officer for Blantyre Water Board Owen Kankhulungo was shown the exit door by government.
The consumers for both Escom and Blantyre have been complaining of poor delivery of service by the two organisations-Malawi Digest.

*That is what we need, but they should stop oppressing people, communism of oppression will find its hiding place. These are the confusions which people need, like the confusion Dalai Lama speaks, a peaceful human just speaks his mind and the world don’t listen because most people are deaf. Check what Dalai Lama commented on visit of Obama to China, the man is correct, but to me what he need is not what most western governements needs. Adams Smith lost something in his theories, Charles Darwing cheated the world that people were from Ape. Aristotle said something like “there is a blind corner even in the head of a sage”, I believe Charles Darwin was one of the people walking on earth with a blind corner busy telling the whole world that people came from Apes. Why do we have different kinds of dogs, dogs of all colours and sizes, birds of all colours and shapes, Apes can just be part of the Human family like Lions are part of tigers, cats, Leopards and so forth

A new Human will walk on earth, Capitalism of Yoke will find its hidding place, Communism of Oppression will find its hiding place, Socialism of no sight will find its hidding place, but the combined forces of the three will releave the human from bondage. Churches and Temples will be rebuilt in human mind not in buildings, and people will enjoy religion of their like. Our country is very small but leaders got formated by their western counterparts, If Bingu blames IMF like what Nyasa speculates, that is true than what Tembo can say because he knows IMF better.
